Inova Heart and Vascular Institute is one of the highest volume centers in the United States for treatment of all types of valve disease, including aortic stenosis. Last year, our physicians performed more than 550 valve surgeries, including 300 minimally invasive surgeries and 250 open heart surgeries.

The Society for Thoracic Surgeons has repeatedly awarded Inova Heart and Vascular Institute the highest quality rating for its Aortic Valve Replacement and Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery. IHVI has also repeatedly been named as High Performing in multiple categories of heart surgery by US News and World Report. HealthGrades, Inc., an independent healthcare-rating agency, also consistently awards Inova Heart and Vascular Institute a spot on its "America’s 50 Best Hospitals" lists for both Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Care.

Because of our long-standing expertise with valvular surgery, we were one of just 40 hospitals in the country chosen to participate in the Medtronic CoreValve U.S. clinical trial. This investigational trial, at the time, was limited to high-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis and used minimally invasive techniques to replace a diseased valve rather than traditional open surgery. IHVI performed the first surgery in the trial in 2011. Results from this trial demonstrated the efficacy of minimally invasive valve surgery and has resulted in a TAVR becoming available to a broader group of patients.

Our experienced team of medical specialists prides themselves on the level of collaboration across specialties to determine the most appropriate care for each patient.

If you are concerned you may have heart valve disease, you can connect to IHVI’s services through one of our cardiologists. If you have already been diagnosed, you can look for a cardiac surgeon online.
