Not only do Inova Heart and Vascular Institute physicians use the latest minimally invasive approaches to procedures but it is also home to an internationally renowned atrial fibrillation program.

We are one of the first cardiac programs in the United States to utilize robotic-assisted surgery for minimally invasive bypass surgery. (Read more about da Vinci and robotic assisted surgery at Inova.)

Our innovative hybrid operating room (the first in the Washington, DC, area) offers increased opportunities for us to perform minimally invasive alternatives to traditionally open procedures.

Additional highlights of our minimally invasive surgical program include

  • The ability to use endoscopic, small incision techniques to harvest veins used in bypass surgery.
  • One of a handful of centers that use the newest stentless tissue valves in aortic valve replacement.
  • The most advanced surgical techniques available to repair and replace all heart valves: aortic, mitral, tricuspid and pulmonary.
  • Among the first in the country to offer minimally invasive aortic valve replacement through incisions less than four inches long.
