TAVR evaluation at Inova Structural Heart Program

To determine whether TAVR will benefit you, you will undergo an extensive evaluation. To simplify and streamline this multistep process, we've designed the Inova Structural Heart Program to make your experience here as stress-free as possible.

  • Convenient location:The Structural Heart Clinic is located at Inova Fairfax Hospital
  • Less travel: All tests are scheduled within 1 or 2 days to minimize the number of trips you have to make here
  • Experienced specialists in one location: Consultations with your care team, including your cardiologist and cardiac surgeon, happen all during the same visit
  • Advanced cardiac testing: We offer advanced, comprehensive testing all in one location, from imaging tests that measure your aortic valve size to cardiac catheterization where your heart doctor inserts a catheter into the blood vessel leading to your heart to measure how well your heart is functioning

What can I expect with the TAVR valve procedure?

TAVR is less invasive than traditional valve replacement surgery. The procedure is typically initiated through the blood vessels in the groin. In cases where the groin vessels are not usable, the valve is placed using a 1-2 inch incision on the chest.

In most cases, patients return home within two days.
